Happy Halloween! I only wish this had been a better year for horror films. So far my movie of the year award goes to ‘Hobo With a Shotgun’ which had me smiling ear to ear the whole time.

    What about you guys?

Oh, without question I have to name Super 8. Not only did it successfully capture that Spielbergian vibe , but it has fairly strong horror elements throughout (some of those creature attacks were outright terrifying) and the subplot about the kids making a zombie film was an inspired and loving nod to both Romero’s Dawn of the Dead and the manner in which legendary genre auters like Romero have inspired legions of us fans over the years. For my money, I haven’t had a better time in a cinema in 2011.

Happy Halloween to all, and to all a restless night!

My two favorite horror movies of 2011 so far have been Trollhunter (whose status as a horror movie is somewhat debatable, I guess) and Tucker & Dale vs Evil. Beyond those two, everything else I’ve seen this year that’s been better than “decent” or “hilariously bad” could only be called horror under a very loose definition (i.e., Attack The Block, Planet of the Apes, Super). FWIW, my favorite movie all year, so far, is 13 Assassins, and I’m not even a Miike fan.
