No, Syfy is not remaking Leprechaun; though I do fully expect to hear that news sooner rather than later. Leprecahn is a new Syfy original in the works that will see a murderous leprechaun reappear on St. Patrick’s Day to unleash a massacre in Cajun country.

I’m pretty certain the movie IM Global is listing on the American Film Market website under the intentionally misspelled title Leprecahn is the same St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun that Syfy announced a few months back as one of their movies for next year. The grammatically incorrect title kind of leads me to believe they still haven’t settled on a final title yet. Or, possibly, that’s how the word is spelled in the movie itself by the illiterate Cajuns.

Sixty-six years ago, the town of Irish Channel in Louisiana was the site of a horrible massacre on St. Patrick’s Day. Some blame a terrible storm that blew through the town, but those that were there don’t speak of the truth. Due to petty superstitions, St. Patrick’s Day festivities were banned for the last 66 years, but now, the new Mayor wants to tempt fate and celebrate.

This killer leprechaun movie was written by Anthony C. Ferrante (Boo) and will be directed by Drew Daywalt, who has helmed several episodes of MTV’s “Death Valley”. No casting news yet as the movie is still in pre-production. I’m guessing they will not have this one on the air in time for St. Patrick’s Day this coming March.

If you’re going to set a killer leprechaun movie in the Deep South instead of Louisiana, would it not make more sense to set it in Mobile, Alabama seeing as how they are the leprechaun capitol of Dixieland?
