What’s this? An upcoming film based upon a young adult novel of all things?!? Be still our hearts! Who would ever dare take such a risky chance? Talk about putting it all on the line. The next thing you know Hollywood will start adapting comic books! Psshhh!

According to Variety independent financier and production company Kerry Kimmel and Pollack has teamed with Eric Thompson’s Vigilante Entertainment to acquire feature film and TV rights to Gregg Olsen’s young adult series Empty Coffin.

KK&P and Vigilante will co-finance and co-produce the first title in the series, Envy, a paranormal thriller that follows twin sisters Hayley and Taylor Ryan as they try to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of their friend. The girls use their talents to solve the crime and, in the process, uncover the origin of their own powers.

The material is sharp, funny and eerie,” said Thompson, who just produced the indie horror flick Rites of Spring. “It’s edgy with protagonists who are modern day teen sleuths with a big family secret.

Production is scheduled to start in fall 2012.
