From the Press Release
The Collective, a full-service entertainment management and content company, and top horror website Bloody Disgusting have acquired North American rights to Hellacious Acres: The Case of John Glass for theatrical, VOD and DVD release as part of the Bloody Disgusting Selects film series.
Montreal-based director Pat Tremblay wrote, directed and played the titular character in this groundbreaking film, which Dread Central called “one of the best reproductions of a post-apocalyptic video game ever made.” Tremblay also edited and co-scored the film and created most of the visual effects. The cast of Hellacious Acres also includes Navin Pratap, Jamie Abrams, Paula J. Davis, Laurent Lecompte and Francis Dubois.
Hellacious Acres portrays John Glass, a man suffering from amnesia who wakes up inside a cryogenic freezer as a robotic voice bombards him with information about World War III, of damages caused by an alien invasion and of the atmosphere having become toxic and unbreathable. John Glass soon learns that he is a warrior sent on a solo mission of the highest importance: decontaminating the Earth’s ozone, a task he has no idea how to achieve. Equipped with intermittently functional military armor, which he must not take off under any circumstance, he begins the exploration of a strange universe filled with hostile creatures.
“Hellacious Acres is smart, witty filmmaking, jammed with a unique sense of humor,” Bloody Disgusting co-Head Brad Miska said. “Gamers and genre fans will celebrate it’s meta-jabs at post apocalyptic features and videos games.”
“I’m extremely proud that Hellacious Acres is now associated with Bloody Disgusting Selects for its North American distribution,” Tremblay said. “Not only do I read its website counterpart on a daily basis, I respect their real devotion in everything they sink their teeth into.”
Tremblay has been a player in the underground film scene since the early 90s. His two most recent films, Heads of Control: The Gorul Baheu Brain Expedition and Truck Lover, both screened as part of Montreal’s Festival Du Nouveau Cinema. Hellacious Acres had its North American premiere as an official selection of the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.
