Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Rupert Wyatt, Joe LetteriThis week Fox releases Rise of the Planet of the Apes, the origin story behind the Planet of the Apes franchise, and we bring you the first in our series of video interviews with the cast and crew of the film.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Brian Cox and Tyler Labine. Rupert Wyatt directed the screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, with visual effects supervised by Joe Letteri.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens in US theaters on August 5, 2011.

Below we present two interview videos with director Rupert Wyatt and visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri, respectively.


Director Wyatt spends time talking about the story of the film and the main ape, “Caesar”, portrayed by Andy Serkis. He elaborates on why they chose to use performance capture to create the apes and what makes this Planet of the Apes film different from the others. He also shares his thoughts on how audiences will react to the film.


Senior visual effects supervisor Letteri also waxes on about the performance capture process, the facial capture, and creating “Caesar”.
