UPDATED: BREAKING EXCLUSIVE: New Evil Dead Film Actually Gearing Up for Production!

Post Thumb:

Evil Dead 4When it comes to anything regarding the next Evil Dead flick, there’s been so much said that we never know just what is or is not concrete anymore. However, an interesting and solid little tidbit has fallen right into our laps.

Dread Central has it on good authority from a very reliable source that long-time Sam Raimi editor Bob Murawski (Army of Darkness; Spider-man, Drag me to Hell) has packed up and headed out to Detroit to begin work on the long talked about fourth entry into the Evil Dead franchise, which will be “a small indie thing like the first two.”

We’ll get you more details as they come, but it looks like this IS happening. Will it be the fourth in the series? Will it be a remake? Stay tuned. News is coming.

According to Bruce Campbell’s official website, BruceCampbell.com, Bruce officially joined Twitter over the weekend (follow @GroovyBruce). On his Twitter site Bruce was questioned by a fan who stated, “I won’t believe in a new Evil Dead film until I see it. Or at least not until @GroovyBruce tells me to believe in it,” to which Campbell responded, “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” More as it comes.

Update 2
A director had been named. Following up on our story, Bloody Disgusting has learned that Fede Alvarez (Federico Alvarez) is directing this quasi-remake that is currently in production in Detroit for Ghost House and Mandate Pictures.

Update 3
We’re not gonna say we told you so but the official word has come!

Believe me, guys. No one is more skeptical about this than we are and if it turns out to be untrue, we’ll be the first ones to admit we were given bad info.

The person who gave me this I trust implicitly. And even then like ten “Are you sure?” e-mails went back and forth. If we weren’t sure beyond a reasonable doubt that this was in fact true, we never would have ran it.

It’s a pretty monster sized scoop. One that just couldn’t be sat upon. We dotted every I and crossed every T that we could. Does that mean it’s rock solid? Of course not. In this biz nothing ever is. Am I confident in the person who dropped this on us? 110%.

If you think about it, it makes sense. Raimi is already in Michigan casting for his Oz film. If you’re going to shoot it down and dirty like the first one, why not do it where you did the first? Especially if you’re already there. And if the Twitter account for Bruce Campbell (@GroovyBruce which is linked to DIRECTLY on BruceCampbell.com) is to be believed – in which he wrote “The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” – then we are indeed on the right track here.

This is very awesome news indeed. If it’s going to be more serious in tone like the first one then I’m all for it.

If it’s anything like DRAG ME TO HELL then we’re in for a treat!

I’m Pretty Skeptical about this too

  • kiddcapone

I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ve watched Bruce Campbell toy with the emotions of audiences at conventions for years so until the first day of shooting begins, I’m skeptical.

  • Vanvance1

I sure as hell hope this is a sequel with the important players involved, otherwise I’d prefer if it didn’t happen.

Unless they could get a certain Phantasm Director to merge his franchise with Evil Dead and direct it (woo hoo).

It’s really hard to get excited for an Evil Dead film that most likely won’t involve Bruce Campbell.

Movie version of the musical maybe? Cause that would be pretty cool.
