Today is a great day. One of our favorite indie films of the year, Absentia (review here), has gotten itself distribution, and that means you guys get to dig on all the fine spookery for yourselves really soon!

The flick stars Katie Parker, Courtney Bell, David Levine, Morgan Brown, Justin Gordon, James Flanagan, and genre favorite Doug Jones.

Fangoria broke the story that Mike Flanagan’s terror tale has been picked up by Phase 4 Films and will receive a video-on-demand premiere July 1st, followed by a DVD release later in the year. Specs and art for that disc are forthcoming. Stay tuned.

In the interim check out the plot crunch, the trailer, and some eye candy below. For more dig on the official Absentia Facebook page.

Tricia’s husband has been missing for seven years. Her younger sister, Callie, comes to live with her as the pressure mounts to finally declare him ‘dead in absentia.’ Tricia is reluctant, always holding out hope, but Callie is practical and wants her to move on. As Tricia sifts through the wreckage and tries to move on with her life, Callie finds herself drawn to an ominous tunnel near the house. As she begins to link it to other mysterious disappearances, it becomes clear that his presumed death might be anything but ‘natural.’ It seems that the ancient force at work in the tunnel might have set its sights on Callie and Tricia … and Tricia’s husband might be suffering a fate far worse than death in its grasp.

This was a great movie, it deserves the success it’s earned.
