Patton Oswalt, Odd ThomasAmidst a crowded sea of stars circling the Odd Thomas project including Willem Dafoe, Nico Tortorella, Emma Roberts, and even Tim Robbins, only one man has the gumption to just sign on … comedian Patton Oswalt.

Variety reports that Oswalt is set to join Anton Yelchin and Addison Timlin in Odd Thomas, Stephen Sommers’ adaptation of Dean Koontz’s bestselling novel. Oswalt will play Oswald “Ozzie” P. Boone, an eccentric artist who designs sculptures, including a steel pendant that the titular clairvoyant hero wears around his neck.

The film, which is sporting a budget in the $20 to $30 million range, is due to shoot in New Mexico later this spring and summer. Already signed on is Anton Yelchin as Odd, a short-order cook who can commune with the dead, a secret only his girlfriend (Timlin) and the local police chief know. The young man can also spot malevolent forces called bodachs, who feed on pain and portend imminent death. When Odd sees them in spades surrounding a stranger, he finds himself in a race against time to avert a catastrophe.
