Besides the question “Why?” regarding Platinum Dunes, one of the most frequent questions we get here at DC is “What’s up with Evil Dead?” Well, for once we have news, and it’s from the man himself, Bruce Campbell.

An Evil Dead Update From the Man Himself - Bruce CampbellIn a recent chat on Reddit, Bruce took all manner of questions from fans, and of course the topic turned to Evil Dead.

When asked, “I have heard that Sam Raimi is planning a remake of Evil Dead. Will you be involved in this, and if so, in what way?“, the response (which you can take with a grain of salt) was “NEWSFLASH: We are remaking Evil Dead. The script is awesome. I will be one of the producers and possibly play the milkman.

In all honesty, we would all love to make another Evil Dead movie,” he continues. “When that will happen? Who can say – we’re all working on other jobs right now. We’re not trying to dodge anybody’s questions; there just isn’t that much to talk about. The remake’s gonna kick ass — you have my word.

Personally my favorite quote of the chat came when Bruce gave his thoughts on the state of horror:

…how do you feel about the direction the genre has taken in the past decade?

“There’s too much torture porn. We have to get back to actually being scary, not disturbing.”

In any event, this is the first time we’ve had actual mention of a real script being in any kind of advanced stage, which is good or bad, depending on how you feel about a remake of what some consider “holy ground” in horror.

What do you think? Are you willing to give it a chance if Raimi/Tappert/Campbell are in fact producing and guiding the ship? Or do you want it left alone? Talk about it in the comments.

A sequel wouldn’t be a bad thing. As I see it Evil Dead was already remade as Evil Dead 2. What makes the series great is how fresh and energetic it was. There is no complex mythology, monsters or left over story that needs to be told.

I’m no more interested in an Evil Dead remake than I am in any remake. They don’t get my money anymore.

Well, if we never have another Evil Dead film, I’ll be content. What we were given was awesome enough.
