Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth to Lead Lionsgate's Hunger GamesWell, the guessing games are over as Lionsgate has officially found its two male leads to duke it out for the right to survive in their upcoming flick The Hunger Games.

The ‘Gate announced today both Josh Hutcherson (pictured right) and Liam Hemsworth for the roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, respectively, in their highly anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ popular novel. The newly announced duo will star opposite the previously announced Jennifer Lawrence, who will play Katniss Everdeen.

Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce heroine Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence), a self-sufficient 16-year-old who lives in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the nation of Panem, what used to be known as North America before its utter destruction several years earlier. Katniss becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, an annual televised tournament where one boy and one girl from each of the nation’s twelve districts must fight to the death until only one competitor, or “tribute,” is left standing.

Look for the Gary Ross directed flick in theatres on March 23, 2012.
