Exclusive First Word and Early Teaser Art – The Shroud

Here at Dread Central we get sent dozens of scripts a week. We’re always happy (and a little shocked) when a young writer asks for our opinion on his or her work, but we like being here to lend a hand. A few days ago a script came our way that’s quickly gaining momentum for its premise alone.

Get ready for the first word on a little film called The Shroud along with some early but still badass teaser art.

The script from writer John Ray Hax is infinitely absurd. So crazed in fact that it just might work. Before we get into all that, though, (hold on to your asses) here’s the log line …

“A Vatican bounty hunter is hired to retrieve the Shroud of Turin after it is stolen by a secret society of Yeti shape-shifters that wants to clone Jesus to bring about the Apocalypse and the end of humanity … humanity they do not share.”

Immediately Mr. Hax had our attention and quickly began to gain the attention of others as well. “I’ve been working on this thing for the better part of a year,” Hax tells us. “At one point I was ready to give up, but then stuff like Birdemic takes off and all of a sudden the person who everyone thought was crazy seems a lot saner.”

Amazingly enough, the wheels started turning. Hax found production partners in Red Circle Films, but just when he thought that things were about to take off, typical bullshit once again began holding the project back.

After being handpicked by Red Circle to helm the film adaptation of Hax’s still unpublished thriller, British commercial director Dan Taylor abruptly parted ways with the production.

Citing “creative differences,” our contact at Red Circle went on to explain that “Dan just had a completely different direction for the screenplay” and that the parting was “a mutual decision.”

So where does that leave The Shroud? “We actually have offers out to a few pretty cool directors who have expressed interest, so we hope to have some word sooner rather than later,” Hax explains. “We even have offers out to several top actors, and while it’s way too early to name names, let’s just say that we’re in the midst of IRONing out some details.

Honestly? We don’t have any clue what that’s supposed to mean as Hax is a lovely but pretty eccentric dude. Another thing he is? Determined. Expect to hear more on The Shroud soon.

In the interim check out John Hax online at his blog, and dig on some teaser art below as promised.
