The WTF Friday Video of the Week: Attack of the Masturbating Zombies

default-featured-image

This week’s WTF video isn’t so much a WTF for its content as it is for the controversy it caused. A 1989 “Saturday Night Live” sketch written by Conan O’Brien called “Attack of the Masturbating Zombies” prompted several sponsors to pull out of the show, leading to the skit being banned from all future SNL rebroadcasts since.

December 9, 1989: Robert Wagner guest hosts “Saturday Night Live”. “Attack of the Masturbating Zombies”, a skit spoofing 1950’s monster movies and zombie movies written by Conan O’Brien, appears late in the show. The following Monday morning SNL and NBC lose a ton of money in advertising when sponsors pull out of the show complaining this skit went too far. The sketch is never to be seen again. Never included in repeats on NBC, Comedy Central, or E! Not included on DVD releases or Netflix instant streaming of old “Saturday Night Live” episodes.

I guess masturbation jokes were just too raunchy even for late night back in 1989. Seems like a major WTF when you consider what “South Park”, “Family Guy”, and just about anything on Adult Swim can get away with these days.

Judge for yourself whether “Attack of the Masturbating Zombies” went too far by watching this rare video of the notorious skit courtesy of Funny or Die. The audio is a little on the low side, but considering this clip is virtually impossible to find anywhere else…

“Folks, as your mayor I’ll give it to you straight. We got zombies goin’ round punchin’ the munchkin.”
