It looks like the summer of 2011 is short one blockbuster as 20th Century Fox has opted to push back the release date of its upcoming Planet of the Apes: Rise of the Apes from June 24th to Thanksgiving weekend, November 23rd.
The news comes from Variety, and the shuffle also includes, among others, Andrew (Lord of War, Gattaca) Niccol’s sci-fi thriller Now starring Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, and Cillian Murphy (look for it October 28th).
Set in San Francisco, Rise of the Apes revolves around man’s experiments with genetic engineering that lead to a dramatic increase in the intelligence of apes and the onset of war for supremacy. Rupert Wyatt is directing from a script by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa.
The great Andy Serkis plays the ape Ceasar, and the film also stars James Franco, John Lithgow, Freida Pinto, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and David Hewlett.
