The Asylum’s Almighty Thor Hammers Kevin Nash, Richard Grieco, and a Top Model

Marvel’s Thor may have Academy Award winner Anthony Hopkins as Odin, but could Hopkins powerbomb a guy through a table like pro wrestler “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash, who will be playing the ruler of Asgard in The Asylum’s mockbuster Almighty Thor? Advantage: The Asylum.

Kevin NashFilming is under way on the Almighty Thor under the direction of Chris Ray, his second stint at the helm of an Asylum production following Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus, which, by the way, arrives on DVD shelves and inside Redboxes this Tuesday.

When the demon god Loki destroys the fortress of Valhalla and steals the Hammer of Invincibility, only the young hero Thor can protect Earth from Armageddon.

Relative newcomer Cody Deal stars in the title role. Looking him up on IMDB reveals he looks the part far more than “Home Improvement” kid grown up Zachery Ty Bryan did when he was horribly miscast as an incarnation of Thor in Syfy’s lame Thor: Hammer of the Gods. Deal certainly has the proper resume to play Thor; most of his previous credits on IMDB had him dressed as either a centurion or a Roman guard.

As previously mentioned, wrestler Kevin Nash has been cast as Odin. That alone should make for quite the spectacle. Non-wrestling fans might recognize his previous acting turns as Jamie Pressly’s dad in DOA: Dead or Alive and “The Russian” in The Punisher.

Since his days starring in the short-lived “21 Jump Street” spin-off “Booker” and his brief dalliances with the big screen, If Looks Could Kill and Mobsters, Richard Grieco has made a respectable living starring in a string of b-movies, some less respectable than others. The specific nature of his role in Almighty Thor has not been made clear. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess he’s playing Loki since he’s a big enough name and no one has been credited with that key role.

On the female side of the cast, Patricia Velasquez, best known as the mummy’s resurrected bride in The Mummy and The Mummy Returns and most recently seen on the shows “American Family” and “The L Word”, has been cast in an unspecified role. Perhaps a Valkyrie?

“America’s Next Top Model” winner Nicole Fox makes her acting debut as “Redheaded Norn”. In Nordic mythology, norns are described as “female beings who rule the destiny of gods and men”. Looking at a picture of the lovely Miss Fox, I can see how she might be able to get men to do her bidding.

Eric Forsberg, writer-director of the marvelous Mega Piranha, scripted this non-Marvel adventure of Asgard’s mightiest warrior.

The Asylum’s mightiest mockbuster of all time will hammer its way onto DVD April 26th, a mere ten days before Marvel’s megabudget movie adaptation.

Stay tuned, true believers!
