Found footage films continue to find their niche within the genre, and we’re totally cool with that as long as they’re good. With several deadly alien life form films on the way, both cinéma-vérité style and otherwise, 2011 is shaping up to be the type of cinematic extraterrestrial invasion that was last echoed in the UFO crazed Fifties and Sixties.

The Weinstein Co.According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, Spanish-language director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego has stepped in to replace Trevor Cawood as the helmer of The Weinstein Co.’s sci-fi “found footage” project Apollo 18.

Expect a theatrical release for Apollo 18, the sci-fi thriller based on the screenplay by Brian Miller, winner of the inaugural Astana International Action Film Festival screenplay competition, founded by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, on March 4th, 2011.

More soon.
