Don Mancini Talks Child’s Play Reboot

It’s been a while since last we heard any rumblings of the proposed remake or reboot or reimagining or whatever they want to call it nowadays to try and quell the fury of the fans, but alas franchise creator Don Mancini has taken a few moments to shed some light on things … Especially just what the hell it’s going to be when it finally does come out.

Don Mancini Talks Child's Play Reboot“I’m personally open to other things but I think that’s what the studio wants” [rather than continuing this series of Chucky films Mancini confirms that the studio is looking for a reboot] “because this movie didn’t do very well so I think the feeling is that Chucky’s viability, his future is in the more straightforward horror vein. I was talking about the rights issues before; I don’t think it’s necessarily what we’ll end up doing as a strict remake.

I think we’ll reboot it in the sense that it will just be more conventionally scary, and it will only be Chucky and won’t have Tiffany and Glen, but it won’t necessarily be a strict remake.”

Sounds to us like they’re looking to give Chucky back more of his mean streak. That’s just what we were hoping for. Click on over to Screen Junkies for the rest of their interview.

You're such an inspiration for the ways that I will never, ever choose to be.

Personally, I’m glad it’s more serious. Seed was terrible, while Bride was just decent. It’s impossible at this point to make Chucky scary (unless they do something really radical with him), but that doesn’t mean they have to go the comedy route. Besides, the original Child’s Play isn’t a great film; I could see a remake working.

I’m glade to see Don is still staying on this and am hoping the rumor of the dude who does Chucky coming back for the reboot is true

This is the only Reboot I’ve actually been looking forward to since I heard about it.. I think it might actually stand a fighting chance with the original people working on it.

I’ll be happy if they go back to the roots in which Chucky started with, the first few where incredbly scary and though I love a good dose of horror and comdy but I’d like to see Chucky go back to be the doll that used to have me scared my Cabage Patch kid, when I was about 8

Maybe that’s what YOU were looking for. Personally I loved both Bride and Seed of Chucky and thought them triumphs of black comedy.

In this case I can still get behind a reboot as long as Mancini is scripting things. Keep the original creator in charge and horror fans know the character will receive the respect and creativity he deserves,
