Paramount Holding Open Casting Call for Super 8?

We all know that JJ Abrams’ new alien-laden monster mash for Paramount, Super 8, goes into production next month, and who would have thunk it – actors are being sought!
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog Paramount announced an open casting call for an “untitled major motion picture.” “Seeking real 13-14 year old boys and girls for the lead roles in a new Paramount feature film,” said the studio on its casting site and in a press release.
Whom are they looking for?
FEMALE 13-14 – AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING NATURAL BEAUTY, STRONG AND CONFIDENT WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. SHOULD HAVE A MIDWESTERN FEEL.
MALE 13-14 – VERY HANDSOME AND/OR STRIKING. MUST HAVE A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. SHOULD HAVE A MIDWESTERN FEEL. MUST BE 5’6” TO 5’11”
THR seems to think this is definitely for Super 8, but our instincts are telling us otherwise. Abrams did state that he wanted unknowns for the film to give it a more naturalistic feel, but fourteen-year-olds? We’re thinking this is more along the lines of Little Darlings or something. Still, hit up that link for their reasoning. Knowing how Abrams works, ANYTHING is possible.
Super 8 tells the tale of bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera that notice upon viewing their footage that they’ve captured what appears to be an alien on film.
