Cover Art and Synopsis for The Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries Vol. 1: Origins

The Vampire Diaries: Stefan's Diaries Vol. 1: OriginsBack in the spring of this year we got word about Stefan’s Diaries, three new prequel novels in The Vampire Diaries canon based more around the TV series on The CW Network than the books by L.J. Smith, and today we got our first look at the cover art along with a bit more clarification as to what these particular Diaries will be about.

Entertainment Weekly got the exclusive on showing off the cover, but what’s more interesting than the artwork is the text – “Based on the novels by L.J. Smith and the TV series developed by Kevin Williamson & Julie Plec” – along with the absence of any indication of the actual author of Stefan’s Diaries Vol. 1: Origins. Apparently Smith isn’t penning Stefan’s Diaries although from what we can determine, Origins is still on track for a November 2nd release from HarperCollins Children’s Books and Alloy Entertainment.

Following are the synopses for all three volumes courtesy of the always on the ball Vampire-Diaries.net:

Vol. 1: Origins:
Set during the Civil War, against a backdrop of grand estates, unimaginable riches, and deadly secrets, three teenagers in Mystic Falls, Virginia enter a torrid love triangle that will span eternity. Brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore are inseparable until they meet Katherine, a stunning, mysterious woman who turns their world upside down. Siblings turned rivals, the Salvatores compete for Katherine’s affection, only to discover that her sumptuous silk dresses and glittering gems hide a terrible secret: Katherine is a vampire. And she is intent on turning them into vampires so they can live together — forever.

Vol. 2: Bloodlust
Stefan and Damon Salvatore are now vampires and must deal with the consequences of their fate. They escape their small hometown of Mystic Falls, which is overrun with vampire hunters, and travel to New Orleans. While Stefan revels in his powers, Damon continues to mourn the loss of Katherine, the beautiful vampire that turned them both. But New Orleans offers temptations and dangers. Stefan falls in love with another human, and his willpower is tested to the limit. Damon ends up captured by an evil, sadistic vampire hunter. Stefan knows that he must save his brother, but will it cost him his new love?
(Pub. date January 4, 2011)

Vol. 3: The Craving
Stefan Salvatore has come to terms with being a vampire. The events of the past few months have sobered him, and the fog of his own bloodlust has begun to lift. He travels to New York City to start a new life, one that does not require him to kill humans to survive. Instead he feeds off of animals in Central Park. But the quiet life he envisioned is jolted when he runs into his brother Damon, who has convinced New York high society that he is Italian royalty. While Stefan is regaining his humanity, Damon has completely lost his. Stefan will do whatever it takes to protect Damon from himself, but there is another villain present. A vampire that seeks revenge for a death the Salvatores are responsible for. Stefan and Damon will have to work together to fight the greatest evil yet.
(Pub. date May 5, 2011)

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost Are Truth Seekers Playing by Slaughterhouse Rulez

Published

on

One of our favorite pairings of stars from the last twenty years is no doubt that of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Their chemistry is undeniable, and if you didn’t get enough of it in “Spaced,” Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, and Paul, you’re about to get a bellyful of it on both big and small screens.

Variety is reporting that Frost and Pegg will be starring in “Truth Seekers,” a half-hour comedy-horror TV show about a three-person paranormal investigation team.

According to the site, each installment of “Truth Seekers” will focus on a paranormal incident, a setup with clear monster-of-the-week potential. “Each episode is going to be an adventure, a potential haunting or something,” Pegg says. “It’ll start as a very parochial idea, a very small business venture for these people, but it will expand as the series goes on to be something far more global. It’s a language everyone understands, the mystery of the unknown. Shaun of the Dead was a very parochial story set in North London, and somehow it managed to get this global reach because everyone understands the language of zombie movies.

That’s not all, though… the pair are also working on the feature film Slaughterhouse Rulez, a horror-comedy now in post-production. Directed by Crispian Mills and set in a well-to-do public school, the movie is “very satirical, very much about the U.K. selling itself off,” Pegg says. “It’s about fracking as well, and that unleashes some awful subterranean demon.

Both of these projects will be released under their Stolen Picture shingle. Stay tuned, kids! More as we get it!
