The Vampire Diaries Blowout: 3 Prequel Novels Coming, Ep. 18 Stills, Ep. 20 PreviewNow this is the way to end a Friday — With a slew of stills and news about one of our favorite shows, The Vampire Diaries. If you’re not watching by now, you’re really missing out, especially considering the turn of events that occurred in last night’s episode.

But before we get to the TV version of The Vampire Diaries franchise, some good news dropped this week for fans of the novels. The Bookseller has confirmed that UK publisher Hodder Children’s Books will be putting out three new titles in L.J. Smith’s Vampire Diaries series that will be prequels to the original books and will be called Vampire Diaries: Stefan’s Diaries. There was no confirmation of when they’ll be released, but we’ll be keeping our eyes and ears open.

Now, back to the TV show. The CW provided us with a batch of stills from Episode 18, “Under Control”, that offers our first look at David Anders (“24”, “Heroes”, The Revenant) as Elena and Jeremy’s uncle, John Gilbert. Check ’em out below the synopsis and trailer:

While Stefan (Paul Wesley) struggles to control his new situation, Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) are surprised by a visit from their uncle, John Gilbert (guest star Anders). Alaric (Matt Davis) has an awkward talk with Elena about Isobel. At a Founder’s Day event, Stefan displays a rare party attitude, and Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) attempt to find out why Uncle John has returned to town takes an ugly turn. An incident at the party causes trouble between Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino), and the relationship between Matt and his mother, Kelly (guest star Melinda Clarke), reaches a new low. Meanwhile, Elena’s effort to comfort Jeremy falls short, and he decides to take matters into his own hands. Sara Canning also stars. David von Ancken directed the episode written by Barbie Kligman and Andrew Chambliss.

They also posted the following synopsis:

While Stefan (Paul Wesley) struggles to come to terms with his past, both he and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) reveal parts of their history to Elena (Nina Dobrev), until she finally learns the truth about how they became vampires. Pearl (guest star Kelly Hu) has an ugly confrontation with Johnathan Gilbert (guest star David Anders). Damon and Alaric (Matt Davis) try to find a mysterious invention before Johnathan does. The friendship and flirtation between Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) and Anna (guest star Malese Jow) continues to grow. Liz Friedlander directed the episode, written by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec.

It looks like we can expect “Blood Brothers” to be that flashback-heavy episode we’ve been waiting for.
