New Burke and Hare Pics; Pegg Debunks Baron Cohen Rumors

default-featured-image

A big batch of new images from John Landis’ upcoming flick Burke and Hare have surfaced online, including a few that caused the rumor mill to start swirling that Sacha Baron Cohen is appearing in the film, but via Twitter (where else?) Simon Pegg set the record straight.

Two of the photos are below, including our first good look at Isla Fisher as Ginny, an ambitious young actress and Burke’s love interest.

But first, here are Simon’s tweets:

  • Today, The Sun newspaper mistakes French cinema wunderkind Romain Gravas for Sasha Baron Cohen. Talk about a high brow gaff!! (wipes eyes).
  • Wait! I cocked up, it’s GAVRAS!!! D’oh! Am I going to look like a mug at the Paris film festival. (more eye wiping and champagne).
  • To be fair Isla Fisher did a huge double take.
  • If Fisher, who’s been involved with Sasha for several years, did a double take, then the confusion is certainly more than understandable. Judge for yourself; Gavras is in the second shot:

Along with Pegg (as Burke) and Fisher, the film stars Andy Serkis as Hare. Other casting includes Jessica Hynes as Hare’s haggard and suffering wife, Lucky, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Curry, Ronnie Corbett, Reece Shearsmith, David Schofield, Allan Corduner, Bill Bailey, Hugh Bonneville, and Michael Smiley.

For those unfamiliar with the misdeeds of Burke and Hare, which were known as the West Port Murders — These crimes were perpetrated in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1827 and 1828. The killings were attributed to Irish immigrants William Burke and William Hare, who sold the corpses of their seventeen victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection.
