On February 11th at X10, Remedy and Microsoft FINALLY stopped the blue ball frustration for male and female gamers alike by confirming their EXTREMELY long-delayed action-adventure Alan Wake will emerge May 18th in North America and May 21st in Europe.

The Collector’s Edition, which seemed to go live at Wal-mart.com and BestBuy.com the nanosecond the release date was announced, will (presumably) drop that day as well! Pro-Tip: also check Amazon.com. If you’re a Prime Member, you’ll pay only the tag price! NO tax/shipping (not bad for 9 bucks a month!)

Alan Wake FINALLY Gets Release Date ... And They REALLY Mean It This Time!

Remedy describes Alan Wake as being “built like a chilling episodic TV series, where your wits and light are your only allies…and will establish a new gaming genre – the gripping psychological action thriller

In Alan Wake you play, well, Alan Wake – a man who makes his living from the terror of others as a best-selling suspense novelist but hasn’t written anything in over two years. When his wife, Alice, brings him to the seemingly peaceful Bright Falls, Washington, to try to kill his writer’s block, she vanishes without a trace. Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare-driven world, word by word from his latest work he doesn’t remember writing, unfolding before his eyes.

Alan Wake FINALLY Gets Release Date ... And They REALLY Mean It This Time!

Wake definitely has the feel of Stephen King (most notably, The Dark Half), and the creators readily admit that King, “Lost”, and “Twin Peaks” (hence the WA State setting, I’m guessing) played a HUGE part in influencing the game.

Now that you know all that, let’s talk Alan Wake Collector’s Edition!

Hardbound in quality linen and designed to resemble a hardcover book, the (limited) Collector’s Edition will include:

Alan Wake FINALLY Gets Release Date ... And They REALLY Mean It This Time!

  • Game disc in box with unique art
  • Exclusive in-game audio commentary and hints by Remedy
  • The Alan Wake Files – a 144-page book that includes a short story written by Alan Wake and compiles the FBI dossiers investigating the events in Bright Falls, WA
  • Exclusive audio disc with soundtrack and score
  • Game add-on token redeemable on Xbox LIVE for the first Alan Wake add-on content pack
  • Exclusive Xbox disc with special content: Alan Wake Xbox Live Theme and Alan Wake Avatar for Xbox LIVE

    AND … it’s only 80 bucks!

Now for the one bit of “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” news for you PS3 players – this game will be on 360 and PC ONLY. Sorry, kids, but you can come watch me when I play it on MY 360! Aw, I’ll let you play, too, but only for a SECOND. Heh heh.

As a kid who saw a teaser during E3’s Microsoft press conference last year, I am VERY excited! This is really happening! Yay!

Enjoy this new trailer from X10!
