Bill Lustig: Maniac Remake on the Way / Possibly Maniac Cop as Well

Bill Lustig: Maniac Remake on the Way / Possibly Maniac Cop as WellAt a recent film festival over the weekend, genre favorite William Lustig dropped some really interesting news regarding two of his properties while accepting a well deserved lifetime achievement award. We warned you not to go out tonight!

Bloody Disgusting was in attendance and brought back the following tidbit:

“We already made a deal for the remake of ‘Maniac’ – there is a remake of ‘Maniac’ thats on its way, believe it or not. That deal is already closed. Now, Larry and I are in discussions for the remake of ‘Maniac Cop’. We’re not gonna be involved, but we’ll collect a check. Actually, on the remake of ‘Maniac’, it’s gonna say produced by William Lustig, but I’m going to have the least amount of involvement as a producer on the movie.”

Look for more on both of these as it comes.

  1. So much of what made Maniac was Joe Spinnel. If they follow the same approach, can they find someone who can be as intense as he was in the role?

  2. Yay! More complaining about remakes! What a frikkin’ surprise! I’m amazed at how horror fans complain about Hollywood’s originality yet none of the have an original thing to say about it.

    • Sorry if my continuing to complain about the unoriginality of Hollywood sounds unoriginal to you, but tough. I’m going to keep on saying remakes suck until they stop making them. Speaking of original comments, maybe you could offer something, instead of just bitching about my bitching. There’s a thought.

      • First of all, I don’t have to because I’m perfectly fine with remakes because (now I WILL sound unoriginal because I’ll be using the same argument for every dotard who complains about remakes) 1- There are plenty of good remakes to justify their existence 2 – there are far more terrible “orginal” horror movies than remakes and 3- a remake doesn’t change the quality of the original in any way, shape, or form.

So how about you accept it because none of your bitching is going to change the FACT that remakes will continue to be made no matter how much you bitch.

        • DSIC, I think you need to accept that people have the right to bitch about remakes. Just because you’re OK with them doesn’t mean everyone else should be.

That being said … everyone … separate corners. It’s Thanksgiving week! Thanks!

        • Once again, there is nothing wrong with remakes. However, the bitching is justified because, thanks to dumb fucks like Platinum Dunes, the majority of them suck. If Hollywood made good remakes on a regular basis, no one would complain. The fact is they rarely do.

    • There’s good reason to complain. There’s nothing wrong with remakes in general, but given the recent track record it’s only natural to get worried.

      • There’s no reason to complain. Not one dime of your money, not a year off your life, or basically ANYTHING in your life is affected by the existence of a remake.

  3. Yay! More remakes! What a frikkin surprise! There’s no way some bullshit remake of Maniac is going to come near to what the original achieved. It’s an exploitation masterpiece as well as a time capsule that doesn’t need remade. But, since Hollywood’s about as original as a Xerox machine I shouldn’t be surprised that the hacks in power would rather green-light more regurgitated dribble than take a chance on an original script. Pathetic!

No offense to Mr. Lustig, whom I adore. But FUCK REMAKES!!!
