BabelgumYou may not be familiar with Babelgum just yet, but that should change as Dread Central teams up with the integrated web and mobile video content platform to provide live streaming content Halloween night both along the annual Weho Parade route and at the Art of Elysium fundraiser at the W Hotel in Westwood.

First, a little bit of what Babelgum is up to. Positioned between user generated video hubs and network TV-oriented destinations, Babelgum focuses on the third part of the ecosystem: innovative, professionally produced content on five very specific passions – Music, Comedy, Film, Urban Culture, and Nature/Environment – curated by experts in their fields. Babelgum’s programming is comprised of exclusive original productions as well as independent and mainstream titles. The company has also set up a series of online contests to nurture independent film, music, and art talent: the Babelgum Online Film Festival, the Babelgum Music Video Awards, and the Babelgum Metropolis Art Prize chaired, respectively, by Spike Lee, Michel Gondry ,and Isabella Rossellini.

Where do Dread Central and its readers come in? Babelgum has just announced a new Sci-Fi/Horror block of programming for its expanding Comedy Channel. Included in the Sci-Fi/Horror Comedy block is the new series “The Occulterers“, an interactive comedy and horror series written/produced/co-starring Hayden Black (Goodnight Burbank, The Cabonauts) and starring James C. Leary (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ellen Sandweiss (The Evil Dead), Amy Kline (I <3 Vampires), and Camden Toy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel) as Count Vampire.

An interactive series, “The Occulterers” is the nation’s premiere ghost-hunting team and will kick off this new season in a genuine Transylvanian castle. Viewers can also watch live feeds from the castle and tweet the Occulterer team (@theocculterers) what they see or hear. While filming, the team will react to the messages and occasionally name-check their favorites.

Also in the horror pipeline is the zombie-loving upcoming series “Cannibal Run“, based on the outlawed and unofficial cross-country automobile race in the 70s.

We’re expanding our Smart Comedy offerings each week with funny, professionally-produced content, and I’m very excited to finally be announcing these incredible Sci-Fi/Horror series,” said Amber J. Lawson, Publisher of Babelgum’s Comedy Channel. “These programs are all exclusively created for our web and mobile platforms to appeal to the Sci-Fi/Horror fan in all of us and fall under our goal of bringing smart comedy to our viewers. I feel Sci-Fi/Horror Comedy is an under-served and rabid audience, and my idea was to give that audience what they want.

But what we’re really excited about is our joint Halloween project with Babelgum. As mentioned above, we will be streaming LIVE on October 31st a Vampire flashmob in Los Angeles at Mexico (8512 Santa Monica Blvd. at La Cienega) along the annual Weho Parade route starting at 6:17 pm Pacific, and then at 10:00 pm Pacific we’ll switch over to the Art of Elysium fundraiser at the W Hotel in Westwood. Check the site that evening for the stream. In addition, more information will be available via the Occulterers Twitter feed.
