Sophie VavasseurSpanish production house Filmax previously announced it would be following up [REC] 2 with the Manuel Carballo-helmed Exorcismus, and today we got a bit of casting news and a more complete synopsis of the possession-based flick.

According to Aullidos (note the translation is a bit rough), shooting began on October 5th. This is a new production of Julio Fernandez and Sandra Fernandez [for] Filmax, shot in English and in which we see an international cast led by Sophie Vavasseur (pictured, Resident Evil: Apocalypse). Rounding out the cast [are] Richard Felix (Perfume; Fragile), Douglas Bradley (Hellraiser), and Stephen Billington (Resident Evil), among others. One of the main features of the film is to be shot with a very realistic tone, so that the fantasy theme of possession will be even more disturbing.

And what about that possession theme? How far will they go? Well, here’s how Aullidos describes it: Emma is sick. Tired of studying at home instead of going to school, tired of baby-sitting [her] younger brother, tired of their parents. Emma’s parents are overprotective, agnostics, and overly strict with their children’s education. Emma wants a different life, wants to be free …

Inexplicably Emma begins to suffer strange attacks that [her] parents attribute to psychological problems, but she knows that these attacks have a very different origin. Emma knows that something terrible inside is gripping [her]. Emma wanted to be free … Some things are best [never wished for] …

Apparently things get worse from there for Emma per our previous information that the storyline revolves around a family that allows their young daughter’s exorcism to be recorded secretly. (As an aside, the original synopsis had the daughter’s name as Suzy, but now even IMDB is saying Emma so it must be right! Right?)

In any event, Exorcismus sounds like just the reminder we all need to be careful what we wish for!
