Jennifer’s Body – Red Carpet Premiere

Dread Central (in this case Dread scribes Heather Wixson and myself) hit the red carpet for the premiere of Fox’s Jennifer’s Body (review here) last night at the Hollywood & Highland complex in Hollywood, CA, and brought back some ocular candy as well as a handful of video interviews from the rather cramped carpet, which you can see below.

The event, co-sponsored by Hot Topic and emceed by Shocktillyoudrop.com’s own Ryan Rotten (who did a stellar job, considering the core audience assembled seemed weighted towards fans of the band Panic!, who performed following the carpet festivities, and not horror), was attended by Jennifer’s Body and Oscar winner (for Juno) scribe Diablo Cody, who sported new platinum tresses and shoulder ink, as well as film stars Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried. Also in attendance were Jennifer’s Body players Adam Brody and Johnny Simmons and the flick’s director, Karyn Kusama.

Dread scored audible (KROQ fans are loud ones!) video interviews with Cody (who chatted up her producer’s role on S.G. Browne’s Breathers: A Zombie’s Lament) and Fox (who talked up her role in the upcoming supernatural flick Jonah Hex). See ‘em below, and check out the official website for Jennifer’s Body. The film opens wide this Friday.

    Megan Fox-Michael Bay = 0 (A big fat zero)

It seems even America’s favorite sex kitten of the moment, Megan Fox, wasn’t enough to save this movie. It’s supposed to be a sexy horror/comedy, but if the most seasoned film critics in the country are to be believed, it is not scary, not funny and thus not sexy. That’s where “Jennifer’s Body” will make the real money — as a cult “so bad it’s awesome” film. People will rent it to be ironic, go see in in a theater to mock it and tell their friends “You have to see it; it’s awful. And did you know it was written by Diablo Cody?”I’ll leave you with one last quote, from Variety’s Justin Chang: “Even with Megan Fox ideally cast as a sharp-fanged succubus with a lusty appetite for young male (and sometimes female) flesh, this high school horror romp tackles its bad-girl-gone-really-bad premise with eye-rolling obviousness and, fatally, a near-total absence of real scares.

I have to disagree. Jen’s Body isn’t so bad it’s good. It’s just so bad it’s bad. Try Lohan’s I Know Who Killed Me if you’re looking for some “you have to see it; it’s awful” fun with your friends.
