Talk of a Possible Reboot of The Vampire Chronicles

default-featured-image

Robert Downey, Jr.Thanks to the success of such vampire-based tales as The Twilight Saga and “True Blood”, it should come as no surprise to anyone that studios are taking another look at the granddaddy of them all, Lestat de Lioncourt, the main character in Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles.

Considering the debacle that was Queen of the Damned on film, it’s a welcome look indeed; however, if the rumor about who might be playing Lestat is true, then I have to say maybe they should just leave well enough alone and turn their attention instead to the Mayfair Witches trilogy, which is long overdue for an adaptation.

According to Bloody-Disgusting Universal is spearheading the effort. So far, so good. They certainly have experience with vamps. But, and here’s the rub, the person they apparently have in mind is none other than Robert Downey, Jr.

Now don’t get me wrong; I love Downey, Jr. as much as anyone — He rules as Iron Man and I am already planning to see Sherlock Holmes on opening day — but Lestat? Not only is his look totally wrong, but at 44 he is way too old to portray the 20-year-old Lestat. If people were upset about Tom Cruise in Interview, then I can only imagine the type of flak this announcement is going to produce.

In any event, we should see how it all plays out soon enough. Keep it here for more, and in the meantime express your thoughts below.
