Predators Director Officially ConfirmedFor weeks now speculation over who will be directing the next chapter in the Predator franchise has been a hot-button issue for horror fans. Finally with one mighty blow the guessing game has been laid to rest.

Tonight AICN caught up with producer Robert Rodriguez to get the official scoopage about what’s going on with Predators, why he didn’t direct, and if not him who will be the director?

The answer to that last bit? The Latino Review predicted Nimrod Antal (Vacancy). Seem like an odd choice? I don’t think so. Truth be told I thought Vacancy was a competent and very stylized little thriller (that is until the crappy ending). At the very least we know that Antal can shoot in the dark without causing the audience to strain their eyes to see what was going on, something the horribly inept Strause brothers couldn’t do with AVP: Requiem. Here’s what Rodriguez had to say about Antal …

“First of all, on a personal level I found him to be an outstanding presence, a great communicator full of ideas, and upon meeting him you can immediately understand how he is able to wrangle cast and crew and get the best out of everyone. I always loved “Kontroll”, where he proved himself to be a very resourceful and original filmmaker. When I saw “Armored”, I could tell he’s also great with action and has a keen eye for casting. He reminded me of Quentin with how he was able to work with a group of very strong, singular actor talents and make it look effortless. I know he’ll be able to get the most out of what we want to be an outstanding cast. We really want to go with a character driven action movie, because that’s what we all remember about the original “Predator”, and we want to take it even further with this.”

UPDATE:
THR nabbed themselves some plot details:

“In this version, a group of humans will find themselves stranded on a planet home to Predators and must survive the horrors they encounter. James Cameron pulled a similar move with his advancement of the “Alien” franchise in his “Aliens.”

Hell yeah!
