One of the best films of the past decade is Oliver Hirschbiegel’s based-on-a-true-story Das Experiment (review). When the inevitable remake reared its head months ago, the name being floated to write and direct was “Prison Break”‘s Paul Scheuring.
Time passed with no news, but I’ve been seeing bits here and there about casting over recent weeks, and Variety confirms that Adrien Brody, Forest Whitaker, Elijah Wood, and Cam Gigandet are set to star in The Experiment for Inferno Entertainment and Magnet Media Group. Paul Scheuring is directing from his screenplay. Shooting begins in Iowa next month.
Wow. Sometime things do go according to plan in Hollywood.
The story shows what happens when a research study on a group of ordinary men recruited to take on the roles of guards and prisoners goes terribly out of control. Brody will portray the de facto leader of the prisoners while Whitaker will play a guard who’s corrupted by the power he’s given.
