A Reboot to Scream About

A Reboot to Scream AboutReboot. Redux. Remake. Relax. It’s all the same crap, isn’t it? Entertainment Weekly got word tonight that a potential reboot of Wes Craven’s Scream franchise is in the works.

Writer/director Kevin Williamson is looking to take over the slasher torch Craven brandished so well in the mid-Nineties and turn his reboot into an entirely new trilogy of films.

EW further reports that Williamson has approached both David Arquette and Courteney Cox about returning to the franchise that he hopes will eventually be populated by some other familiar Scream faces.

No deals or contracts have been put into place yet, but things could begin moving as early as this fall. Stay tuned.

This is really sad. Mostly because it’s even more pathetic than Hollywood usually is. I’m going to have to agree that this movie isn’t even old enough to have a remake. Also, why don’t they actually try remaking movies that are REALLY old? Like say, stuff from the 20s,30s,40,50s, and 60s. At least with those films there is some potential for update, and if the remakes suck they’re such classics that it won’t much matter if an update misfired.

Oh its going to be a prequel driected by Uwe Boll. What do you go to say about that?

Half the cast of Supernatural and Smallville will take over the whole cast.

    Shocker of all shockers.

Hell why don’t they just go ahead and remake films that just came out? Drag me to hell needs a remake? Why Not? It was good but it could use a reboot.

    …Why can’t they just leave well-enough alone?

I can understand remaking a movie from 20, 30 years ago, but the movie’s barely a decade old. How is there a need for this?

Hollywood seriously needs to be stopped.

I yawned when the first Scream came out. For the remake/reboot/redux I might yawn, but with a contemporary flair…
