If you live in Portland, Oregon (as I do) or close by, or just happen to be in the area this weekend, make sure to check out the Zompire Undead Film Festival being held May 15-17, 2009, at the classic Hollywood Theater (where Bruce Campbell himself has premiered and hosted showings of The Man With The Screaming Brain and My Name Is Bruce).
“I’ve been running the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival for fifteen years and a couple of years ago I decided to do a festival centered around the undead,” says Andrew Migliore, founder of Zompire, now in its fourth year. “I wanted to show the undead in hopefully new and unusual ways… to educate and entertain. My approach (to selecting the films) was let us assume we are all preparing for Z-Day and that these films are really training films on what and what not to do in the event of an undead uprising.” And if the films themselves don’t provide enough survival info in the event of a zombie outbreak, perhaps the presentation by Scott Adam Glancy of the Center for Undead Neutralization Tactics (funded in part by the department of Homeland Security) will be of assistance. Scott will be on hand to provide valuable tips on how to survive and thrive in a world overrun by the undead.
Some of the titles showing during the festival include Morgue Story – Blood, Blowfish & Comics, The Revenant (whose director Kerry Prior will be on hand Saturday night to present the advance screening of his film), Cemetery Man, Planet of The Vampires and One Dark Night . Of course, no undead film festival is complete without a little Romero. For those who were never lucky enough to see Day of The Dead on the big screen (such as myself), this will be our big chance to do so. There will also be sponsor swag on hand!
For ticket prices, showtimes, a list of sponsors (did I mention the swag?) and the complete line-up, check out the official Zompire Undead Film Festival website.
See you there!
