Eli Roth Discusses Thanksgiving Feature

Eli RothEvery once in a while things work out like the fans are hoping. It’s been almost exactly two years since Grindhouse was released and we were treated to its fake trailers, which included Eli Roth’s well received “Thanksgiving”, and today we learned that a feature length version could very well become a reality.

But let’s back up a bit. Roth spoke with MTV Movies Blog about a couple of subjects, including his new script for his first really “big budget” project, which he promises is “going to be something that is really fun with lots of mass destruction … something along the lines of ‘Transformers’ or ‘Cloverfield’ [but] a little more science fiction-based, and with lots of chaos and mass destruction. It is not aliens or robots or a virus – it’s a little more grounded.

Then things got interesting as Roth laid out his plans for Thanksgiving as follows: “I want to do a huge budget movie, but tack on three weeks to the end of it and shoot ‘Thanksgiving’. I want to make the highest body count slasher film I can … the sickest, bloodiest, most violent slasher movie.

We’ve certainly all heard promises like that before, but if anyone can do it, it’s Eli. Keep it here as we dig deeper into the story and bring you more details as they come.

  1. You know what, I really do like Eli Roth, he’s someone you would want to hang out with and watch or talk about horror movies with. As a director he’s been ok, I kind of liked Cabin Fever, Hostel was, ok as well as Hostel 2. Not great but ok. But Thanksgiving looks fantastic as a trailer. I think it would transition well as a movie as long as he keeps the look and feel of an 80’s slasher. Its different, its a got great franchise potential, a cool killer, if it has Michael bien it will be automatically awesome, and hell I just love slasher movies and always want more. After My Bloody Valentine 3D,Friday the 13th remake and the Tv series Harper Island(for some reason this show reminds me of Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and the 80’s slasher April Fools Day..Or am I just crazy people?), I think slashers are ready to take the limelight that the zombie and asian ghost films have enjoyed the past couple of years. I say bring it on Eli and give us another Slasher Icon, this time I do believe in you….Sorry that was corny.. Oh and Laid To Rest is by far the best Slasher I have seen since…….Hell it is the best slasher movie I have seen since I first saw Halloween and Friday the 13th.

  2. Thanksgiving is the only thing Roth has done that I’ve genuinely liked, but I think the one-note joke is destined to work better in fake-trailer form.

  3. Roth is all talk and no action… unless (of course) it’s Tarrantino talking dirty to him, and Roth giving him some man-on-man action!!!

  4. I’d still prefer that Trailer Trash movie that he was going to do. Really now. I don’t think the idea would get old as I enjoy those Something Weird compilations where are filled with 2 hours of trailers per DVD.

  5. Funny how after “Hostel II” didn’t do so hot, it was all quiet… But now it’s like he’s coming back. Personally, I look forward to whatever he does next.
