As witnessed by producer, writer and director LazRael Lison’s feature slasher, Rift, which premieres in Los Angeles on April 28th, Ghostface hasn’t quite yet cornered the market on the slaughter of students, and we’ve got the first peek at Rift’s trailer, stills and official site. Read on!
Lison tells Dread exclusively of his ambitious film, “Rift was inspired by true events of multiple murder cases which transpired over the past 40 years, some solved and unsolved, mainly focusing on the story of Richard Speck and the murders in 1966. Of course being in Hollywood, we took the liberty of adding some artistic license to make it more entertaining to the viewer. Rift is set over three time periods: 1972, 2001 and the present day.”
Produced by Lison, Tatiana Chekhova, and executive producer and Olympian athlete Carl Lewis, the Gjenius production stars Leslie Easterbrook (The Devil’s Rejects), Tom Wright, Richmond Arquette, Darcy Fowers, and Ali Costello, among others, and centers around (according to the flick’s official synopsis) ‘several collage students who were brutally murdered inside the newly refurbished Town Creek apartments in 2001. To this day, there are still no definitive answers to what happened. Eager to prove herself, Jennifer Campbell (Fowers), a graduate student with aspirations of a journalism career, takes on the task of investigating and discovering clues and evidence in order to solve the mystery. Along the way she finds disturbing and horrific things that she ultimately wishes she never had delved into. When she forces her way into the building, she gets a crash course on why some secrets are better left untold.’
Shot over the course of thirty days in Los Angeles and Long Beach on the Red 1 camera, Richard Chamberlin served as Rift’s director of photography with editing and VFX duties handled by Alim Ibrahim.
Of securing the financing for his independently financed Rift, “since I had done several projects before,” says Lison, “I used that leverage to help raise the money. It’s never easy, but my whole motto is ‘Never Quit’. By not quitting, I was able to raise what I needed.”
“The movie is set to premiere at the Laemmle’s Music Hall Theatre (9036 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills, CA 90211) on April 28th in conjunction with the American Red Cross event for Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Victims,” Lison tells us of Rift, which is currently seeking a distribution deal. “This is an invitation-only event for distribution, sales agents, media and trade. If you’re a member of the industry, please contact our publicity department here to be invited to this event.”
Fear not, however, as horror fans too will be able to catch a peek.
“You can purchase tickets online from the Rift website,” says Lison. “We invite anyone looking for a great roller coaster ride to come out and get their fill of this creepy and entertaining movie.”
