Update on MGM's Financial Woes

While MGM's financial troubles are far from over, the studio has issued a statement that provides a brief update on the situation and gives us hope that the rumored "fire sale" has been forestalled and maybe, just maybe, the company won't be going down in flames after all.

The Video Dead (Almost) on DVD

You remember the VHS cover: a zombie, clawing its way out of a TV set. And that title? Totally 80’s, totally in blue neon with drippy, gruesome, haunted house lettering: The Video Dead, my friends. Heck it used to be on USA every Saturday growing up, hawked by Rhonda Shear or Commander USA. Well, as you know, it’s not on DVD ... yet.

Clock Ticking for MGM; Logo and Library Heading to the Auction Block?

If the word coming out of Hollywood this evening is correct, we are about to lose a huge piece of cinematic history. MGM, which boasts one of the best known logos in the entertainment business and a library of some 4,000 films, could be placed on the auction block due to its massive $3.7 billion debt.

Cabin in the Woods Delayed, Goes 3D

We all thought we were only a few months away from the February release of the Joss Whedon scripted slasher flick, Cabin in the Woods. Unfortunately MGM has other plans. Looks like we're gonna be shopping for a new horror valentine this year.

Poltergeist Remake Hits Fast Track

Word has broken from MGM about their proposed remake of the classic film Poltergeist. The studio has slated the film for release on November 24, 2010, just in time for Thanksgiving weekend. Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) is attached to direct.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Gets X-ray Eyes

Who here remembers Roger Corman's classic X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes? Anyone? If you do, you're either an uber-fan like me or well on your way to (or past) middle age. In any event the film is up next for the old remake treatment with a great name attached to direct.

Five Cast in Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods

MGM finally let the proverbial cat out of the bag tonight in terms of the casting of the Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard's latest film, The Cabin in the Woods, and I have to say things are shaping up quite nicely.

Two Sign for Cabin in the Woods

Finally, some casting is going down for Cabin in the Woods, the Drew Goddard/Joss Whedon-penned horror film that Goddard will be making his directorial debut on.

Twisted Clip from Hit & Run

The folks at MGM just dropped us a clip from the direct-to-DVD thriller Hit & Run, which is in finer DVD stores everywhere today. The story follows a girl who hits a man with her car, impaling him, and the consequences of the decisions she makes to try and deal with it.

Hit and Run Trailer

The nice folks over at MGM just sent along the official trailer for their upcoming direct-to-DVD offering Hit and Run. The story is about a college student who thinks she accidentally kills a cat on her way home one night, but instead finds a man’s nearly dead body impaled on the bumper of her Jeep. Easy mistake, happens all the time.

Last House Collector's Art

The boys over at DVD Active got a very nice look at the cover for the upcoming Special Edition re-release of Wes Craven’s Last House on the Left.

New Last House Edition Planned

As is usually the case, a remake of a classic horror film (in this case the one coming up from Rogue) means a special edition of the original will make its way to DVD. In the case of Wes Craven’s Last House on the Left, it’s a long overdue catch up.
