Toy Fair 2010: Diamond Select’s Universal Monsters

Nomad has finished sifting through his hundreds of pictures from this year’s Toy Fair and just updated his blog with the details about Diamond Select’s two new lines of Universal Monsters: Universal Select and Universal Minimates, both of which are starting with figures from Creature from the Black Lagoon.
First up, the “Select” Creature: Sculpted by Rudy Garcia with a base sculpted by Jean St. Jean, this seven-inch portrayal of the infamous Creature depicts the legend in perhaps its most screen accurate detail. The Select version includes an exclusive paint scheme as well as a detailed base featuring the film’s alluring Femme Fatale. In stores this May, $19.99. There will also be a second version with a smaller base and smaller packaging for mass market and a $15.99 price tag.
Universal Monster Retro-Style (AKA Mego) action figures are also on the way with Dracula and The Wolfman in wave 1, then the Mummy and Frankenstein in wave 2. EMCE lends a hand there, as you’d expect. Deluxe Frankenstein will come with the lab table and the Mummy with his sarcophagus. There are paint variations between the two lines as well.
The Diamond Select website provides us with the Minimates scoop: This is planned as an annual program in stores each year in time for Halloween. Minimates 4-pack box sets of the Creature from the Black Lagoon and Wolfman, both featuring exclusive Femme Fatales, will be hitting specialty stores in time for Halloween 2010. Toy R Us, one of the worlds leading Minimate retailers, will have two packs from those same franchises with exclusive B&W variations in stores at the same time.
