Mezco’s Monstrous Goodies

We’ve just finished uploading all of our Mezco images to the massive San Diego Comic-Con gallery (OVER 800 PICS IN THERE!!), so we thought it would be a good time to catch up with Damien Glonek and find out what horrors they’ll be dishing out in the near future.

Cinema of Fear, Mez’s flagship horror series, continues but with major changes on the way. It seems New Line’s House of Horrors is a house divided as the rights to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series have reverted back to Tobe Hooper and company. Now Warner Bros. has taken Jason and Freddy over to NECA to continue the mayhem while Leatherface stays with the Mez. For those who have been chomping at the bit for that fantastic Chainsaw 3 Leatherface, worry no more. He’s on the way. Expect him in Cinema of Fear series 5 alongside “homeless” Michael Myers in 2010. No word yet on who will be joining them, so if you have a love for horror outside of the worlds of Platinum Dunes, get those requests into the comments!

Speaking of Michael Myers and Halloween II, we should get the new Michael Living Dead Doll around the time of the movie’s release. The 7-inch action figure in the iconic jumpsuit will follow soon after. Michael also gets his own 6-inch vinyl Mez-it in 2010. Damien also mentions that there should be a few more items on the way, but they will most likely focus only on Michael Myers. Sorry, Scout fans! When asked if Mezco might be eying up any other Zombie projects for collectibles, we were told there could be a possibility for House of 1k Corpses to fit into Mez-itz, and they certainly think 3.75-inch figures from Corpses or Rejects would be killer, but none of that is on tap yet. I suggested a “Final Confrontation” boxed set with Spaulding, Otis and Baby in their bullet-riddled ride for the 3.75-inch line. Damien replied “In a perfect horror world!

So with Freddy and Jason moving on, what horror is left to Mezco Toyz beyond Leatherface and Michael? Living Dead Dolls get their own Saw puppet, first and foremost. There are more licensed LDD’s in the works as well. There are also the 4-inch rat fink inspired Hellrods (with Freddy and Leatherface), and The Wolfman line coming this October. Unfortunately, the Goosebumps and Little Big Planet toy lines are dead.

Mezco’s 6-inch vinyl Mez-itz have started to hit Toys R Us with their exclusive wave of Abe Sapien and Hellboy. A Mezco Direct exclusive, Zombie will be up for pre-order this month and comes in color or black and white. In November, we can hunt for Freddy and Jason. There are no release dates yet for Frankenstein or Dracula, but they WILL get made.

Living Dead Dolls are in their 11th year and still selling strong. Series 18 drops in September with a Halloween theme. Included are Ingrid, the Vampire, Jingles the Jester, Gabriella the Ghoul, Calavera the Skeleton, and Ember the Witch. Series 19 is in development as we speak.
