“We don’t want to watch this”: Florida Teacher Traumatizes Fourth Graders With This Gory New Horror Film

An instructor at The Academy for Innovative Education, in Miami Springs, Florida has landed in hot water following an unusual selection for movie day. CBS News Miami has learned that the teacher screened the horror film, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, for a room full of fourth grade students on October 2nd.

It seems the pupils selected the film and the instructor failed to investigate the picture’s content. Though the teacher did turn the movie off around the 30-minute mark, the damage had been done.

Michelle Diaz, who has twins that attend the charter school, is unsettled by the ordeal, noting that the teacher ignored the children’s cries that they didn’t want to continue the film. “He didn’t stop the movie, even though there were kids saying, ‘Hey, stop the movie, we don’t want to watch this’,” Diaz told CBS News.

For anyone not familiar, the horror picture follows the titular character, with Piglet in tow, as they set out on a bloody rampage. The beloved characters (which are now part of the public domain) wreak havoc on Christopher Robin and a group of college coeds.

The school has faced criticism in the wake of the screening, which led Ms. Vera Hirsh, the head of the institution, to provide the following statement: “The Academy for Innovative Education has become aware that a segment of a horror movie was shown to fourth graders, Monday, October 2, 2023, that was not suitable for the age group. Our administration promptly addressed this issue directly with the teacher and has taken appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of students. We are actively monitoring the students and our mental health counselor and principal have already met with those students who have expressed concerns.”

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey has been making waves since we first reported on the project in 2022. It seems like the title would have indicated to the instructor that the film wasn’t for children. But as we know, Florida does things a little differently.
