Page and Hendrix? Mediocre compared to my favorite guitarist and the absolute best in the world.... from Japan.

AKIRA TAKASAKI!

I've seen LOUDNESS live and no one can touch him.

All great replies. I'll toss Buckethead and Dimebag into the mix.

1) Mike McCready - from Pearl Jam (my hero)
2) J Mascis - from Dinosaur Jr (one of the most under-rated guitar players out there)
3) David Gilmour - from Pink Floyd (one of the best)

Years ago I read an interview with one of the guys from Voivod, and he said something to the effect that David Gilmour and Angus Young have never played a bad lead.

And I have to agree. So, they lead off the list, which also includes:

-Django Reinhardt
-James Hetfield (one of the tightest rhythm players in rock)
-Malcolm Young (see Hetfield)
-Tomoyasu Hotei
-Son House
-Bukka White
-Kerry King
-Chuck Schuldiner
-John Williams (the classical guitarist)
-Phil Keaggy
-Warren DeMartini
-Duane Allman
-Steve Cropper
-Chet Atkins
-Mark Knopfler
-James Burton
-Alex Lifeson
-Al Di Meola
-John McLaughlin
-Steve Morse
-Steve Howe
-Allan Holdsworth

And the obvious choices...because they're obviously good:

-Jimi Hendrix
-Jimmy Page
-Ritchie Blackmore
-Eddie Van Halen
-Randy Rhoads
-George Lynch
-Joe Satriani
-Steve Vai
-Eric Johnson
-John Petrucci
-Yngwie Malmsteen
-Stevie Ray Vaughan
-Eric Clapton
-Jeff Beck
-Dimebag Darrell
-Zakk Wylde
-Buckethead
