10 Awesome Underrated Horror Movies to Stream on Netflix During the Coronavirus Crisis

Now that so many of us have been asked to remain at home during the Coronavirus crisis, streaming entertainment is more important than every: as a distraction, an escape, and a way to feel connected to the outside world, cinema is more important than ever.

If you’re looking to bulk up on your horror knowledge, we’ve assembled a killer list of flicks streaming on Netflix. These are the titles that get lost in the shuffle, but are nonetheless totally worthy of your attention.

We’ll do our best to keep the recommendations coming, with additional Netflix recommendations, as well as lists of what’s worth watching on Hulu, Shudder, and other streaming platforms.

While I’m not focusing on apocalyptic themes, some of these suggestions are ironically fitting for facing current anxieties. Enjoy!

Siren

Synopsis:
One week before his wedding day, Jonah and his groomsmen hit the town for a wild night of club hopping and debauchery. However, the night soon takes a twisted turn for the worse when the group is invited to a seedy underground club. After Jonah frees a seemingly imprisoned dancer, he realises that the woman he released is actually a terrifying, legendary creature that will stop at nothing to claim her prey.

Await Further Instructions

Synopsis:
On Christmas Day, a family wakes up to find a mysterious black substance surrounding its house, and its TV screen broadcasts a single message: “Stay Indoors and Await Further Instructions.”

Synopsis:
When a virus threatens to wipe out humanity, Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci), his brother Brian (Chris Pine), and their friends Bobby (Piper Perabo) and Kate (Emily VanCamp) set out across the desert in the Southwest, trying to elude the pandemic. Over the course of several days, the four friends learn that the darkness within themselves may prove deadlier than any microbe.

Girls With Balls

Synopsis:
All girls volleyball team The Falcons end up stranded in the middle of nowhere after their mini-van breaks down. Little do they know they landed in degenerate hunters’ territory and the hunt is on. Thus begins a very long night where they must run for their lives and test their team spirit. But the girls are more resourceful than it appears. In the heart of the forest, the tables are about to turn between hunter and hunted…

He Never Died

Synopsis:
Jack, a social outcast, is thrust out of his comfort zone when the outside world bangs on his door and he can’t contain his violent past.

Horns

Synopsis:
Blamed for the murder of his girlfriend, a man (Daniel Radcliffe) awakes one morning to find he has grown a pair of horns. Armed, now, with supernatural powers, he sets out to find the killer.

Murder Party

Synopsis:
A man gets a random invitation to a Halloween party, and when he arrives he finds he’s the guest of honour at his very own gut-wrenching murder.

St. Agatha

Synopsis:
Pregnant and on the run, young Mary seeks refuge in an isolated convent in small-town Georgia in the 1950s. When she discovers the community’s dark secrets, Mary must find a way to save herself and her baby before she’s trapped there forever.

Sweetheart

Synopsis:
A shipwreck survivor on an uninhabited island must fend off a malevolent force that surfaces each night.

The Eyes of My Mother

Synopsis:
Francisca (Kika Magalhaes) has been unfazed by death from an early age because her mother, formerly a surgeon in Portugal, imbued her with a thorough understanding of the human anatomy. When tragedy shatters her family’s idyllic life in the countryside, her deep trauma gradually awakens some unique curiosities. As she grows up, her desire to connect with the world around her takes a distinctly dark form.
