Brad Pitt is Making a Documentary about SOUNDGARDEN/AUDIOSLAVE Frontman Chris Cornell

Brad Pitt may have some free time on his hands since Paramount pulled the plug on World War Z 2, the sequel he hoped to make with Fight Club director David Fincher. Today brings word that he’s already got a new project lined up and, while it’s a far cry from zombie horror, it’s nonetheless something fans of heavy metal and music history will want to sink their teeth into.

Variety is exclusively reporting that Pitt is teaming up with Peter Berg on a documentary about late Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, who tragically died suddenly in 2017. They’re also reporting that Cornell’s widow, Vicky Cornell, will participate as a producer.

In January, Vicky Cornell and a number of the grunge icon’s fellow musicians, including Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament, threw a benefit concert, “I Am the Highway: A Tribute to Chris Cornell” at the Forum in Los Angeles. Guest performers included Miley Cyrus, Foo Fighters, Metallica, Brandi Carlile and Chris Stapleton. Pitt also made an appearance.

We’ll definitely be keeping our eyes on this project. Whether you’re a fan of grunge/heavy-metal or not, Cornell is a vocal virtuoso with a nearly inhuman range who deserves to be remembered fondly. Hopefully, the documentary will also tackle issues of isolation and depression. We’ll let you know as additional detail emerge. Stay tuned!
