‘Malibu Horror Story’ Director Scott Slone On The Decade-Long Evolution of His Found Footage Film [Watch]

While The Blair Witch Project is a pinnacle in found footage history, there’s no denying the power and impact Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity had on the genre. Scott Slone was one filmmaker inspired by the found footage boom in the late 2000s. He wanted to make his own tale of DIY terror. Now, a decade later, that film, now titled Malibu Horror Story is finally coming to theaters.

Malibu Horror Story follows a team of amateur paranormal investigators as they delve into a 10-year-old unresolved case, the disappearance of four popular high school boys on graduation night. While exploring a sacred cave in the hills of Malibu California, the team encounters chilling paranormal occurrences. As they analyze footage from the missing teens’ camera, they make a terrifying discovery involving an ancient curse which forces them to confront their own worst fears and unravel the sinister truth behind the boys’ vanishing.

Dread Central spoke with Slone about how his film reflects the history of the found footage genre and what it means to finally unleash it onto the world.
