Rejoice: Hulu Is Now Streaming “One of the best miniseries ever produced”

Halloween is truly a beautiful time. It’s my favorite time of the year, no doubt about it, and I imagine most horror fans feel the same. I make it my personal mission to develop and execute a new seasonal marathon every October. I take it very seriously. I’m talking months of preparation, figuring out which new watches to add, which seasonal perennials to keep in rotation. It’s not easy, but it is my duty. I’m more than happy to share my picks with family and friends. Even though the season has come and gone, I’m still inclined to make time for spooky season classics.
One seasonal treat that I don’t mind indulging in outside the confines of October is Patrick McHale’s Over the Garden Wall. I was late to the game, only catching the series for the first time in 2021, but now I feel like it’s been there my entire life. It’s the perfect slice of gateway horror.
Per Hulu: Over the Garden Wall is Cartoon Network’s 1st animated mini-series event that tells the story of two brothers, Wirt and Greg, who find themselves lost in a strange forest. With the help of a bluebird named Beatrice, they must travel across this strange land in hope of finding their way home.

In an editorial several years ago, I spotlighted the 10 best family-friendly horror movies to watch for Halloween, sharing, “Over the Garden Wall is one of the best miniseries ever produced; it appeals equally to children and adults alike. It’s funny, tender, warm to its pumpkin, hayride core, and even has some truly nightmarish imagery for the horror fan who thinks they’ve seen it all before.” It’s not an especially long watch, though its seasonal haunts will linger for a long time after.
Over the Garden Wall is evocative, sweet, and worth watching on Hulu, whether it’s for the first time or dozenth. After all, “few pieces of media have conceptualized the spirit of Fall quite as well as Patrick McHale’s Over the Garden Wall.”
All hail Over the Garden Wall. Any plans to check it out and enjoy a bit of the Halloween spirit in January? If you opt to do so, let me know what you think over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
