The evolution of dollar-store horror has apparently come true with the viewing of director Tom Barrow’s ultra-cheesy The Legend of Pumpkin Face, and if not for the otherwise jovial feeling I’d induced upon myself before partaking in this organic clunker (via the beer equation), I’d probably have ripped it to shreds. Nonetheless, this 12-minute quickie is heavy on the lame dialogue, moronically inept characters, and budget-view gore FX… other than that, I didn’t mind it too much.

With a small group of friends gathered around a campfire, you knew it wouldn’t be long before the spooky stories became unfurled, and we’d have some blood to wash off our clothes. The story surfaces about a killer who wears a pumpkin on his head… or was it a killer pumpkin with a human’s body? Either way, a bunch of undersexed, overly chemically enhanced morons are going to get slaughtered, and I’m waiting with my splash-guard tightly cinched up.

Without spilling any details (as if there were any), the kills look bottom-drawer, and the acting merely accompanies it in commensurate fashion, although you more than likely won’t care because the people you want to see will get slaughtered, and do it in rather entertaining fashion. Look, we’re not viewing award-winning stuff here, and I’m sure that the powers-that-be who created this display are fully aware of the turmoil they’ve created, and I’m fairly sure they couldn’t give a hoot as to the words I’m tossing down here, but The Legend of Pumpkin Face is equivalent to opting to get punched in the jaw by either Mike Tyson or that guy who played Steve Urkel… it might hurt to deal with it, but the lasting effects vary depending on who dealt the blow.
