We told you yesterday about the breaking news that a new entry in the Evil Dead franchise is imminent and that original director Sam Raimi is involved. Well, that cat is officially out of the bag!

brucecampbell - More Evil Dead News! Director Named!People doubted us, and with good reason. This was HUGE news. But as it turns out, we were spot on, and you heard it here first. Even cooler? More details have surfaced!

More breaking news comes from our friends at Bloody Disgusting, who have the exclusive info that this is going to be a “quasi-remake” and that a director has been named.

Check it out –

Bloody Disgusting is being told exclusively that Sam Raimi is gearing up to produce a quasi-remake of The Evil Dead, his breakthrough horror film from 1981 that starred Bruce Campbell as “Ash”, a modern day warrior who fends off resurrected deadites.

In an exclusive scoop, we’re told that Fede Alvarez (Federico Alvarez) is directing for Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures and Mandate.

Casting is already taking place in Detroit, Michigan for a “low budget” shoot before Raimi steps behind the camera for Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Below you’ll find the short film Panic Attack! that first got Alvarez noticed. Tell us what you think in our comments section.

The director looks good, and they are staying under the radar doing this very “down and dirty” and independent. Sam is still producing.

Yes, it’s disappointing that Sam won’t direct but, I am still holding out hope on this one.

Total waste of time. I was full of anticipation but this news leaves me completely uninterested in the project.

Raimi would do well to learn from Lucas’ mistakes; don’t piss on your own legacy. 20 years from now the Evil Dead originals will still be loved but I doubt his version of Spider-Man will hold up half so well.

Well, Evil Dead 2 was a quasi remake of the first one. That turned out great, hope lightning will strike again. I do not want a crappy Evil Dead film.
