More than any other editor, award-winning writer Rick Wilber embodies the merger of baseball and fantasy. With a childhood spent in baseball clubhouses and dugouts while his father played for the Boston Red Sox and a passion and talent for science-fiction writing, he is uniquely qualified to compose an anthology combining a love of sci-fi with our national pastime.
In Field of Fantasies: Baseball Stories of the Strange and Supernatural, Wilber delves into the cursed and supernatural landscape of baseball to bring readers works by both legendary masters and new talents, including Stephen King and Steward O’Nan, Karen Joy Fowler, Jack Kerouac, Ray Bradbury, and Rod Serling, to name a few.
Within these pages you’ll find frozen curveballs, robot pitchers, fantasy outcomes (the Cubs win the World Series!), and other supernatural occurrences that fans of the genre will love and fans of baseball will find strangely believable. If you’ve ever held a bat or glove in your hand, or even just watched a game on TV, you’ll be enthralled by these terrific tales that range from the sandlot to the sold-out stadium. Only yesterday’s and today’s most challenging and exciting writers could have written the stories cataloged here, and only Wilber could have selected them.
- virgo02 I really liked the movie when it came out and I still do. I just watched it the other day. I still can't believe they took away the sibling part of the movie. That too me made it more suspenseful. The...
- Nick Greeley Nice clickbait. It’s OLD news that H20 started as a passion project for her, but everything fell apart when Carpenter and Hill didn’t come back, and Moustapha Akkad refused to let the writers kill...
- Mackey Would be awesome if Amazon or Netflix could save "The Exorcist" too
- One-Eye I remember it as being one of the better post SCREAM slasher movies. I certainly haven't watched it since then.
- One-Eye I kind of dig how Osment is just like "Yeah, I'm fat and have a big, bushy beard. And that's how I'm gonna stay now..."
