Barker Talks Dread, New Comics
Phil and Sarah, the incredibly well versed and intelligent owners of the official Clive Barker site, recently sat down with the man himself for their 21st exclusive, extensive interview. If you’ve never read through one of these, I highly recommend it; you really get a feeling for just what a diverse artist Barker really is.
The first bit of interesting news Barker divulged to the duo is that IDW will be working with him on a completely original comic series called Torakator. He wouldn’t reveal much else about it, just that it will be 12 issues, it’s never seen print in any form before, and he’s doing it because he believes ”the future of comic books depends on having unique work.” Beautiful.
He also made mention of Dread, which will be the next film from the Books of Blood series. ”I think Anthony [DiBlasi] is going to start shooting Dread in Scotland in June…” he told the site. ”Dread will be modest, it won’t be a huge movie, it’s essentially a haunted house story … It doesn’t have a lot of prosthetics and so on, it’s very realistic, it’s not fantastical and he’s written an amazing script… so that will be the second of the movies we’re making from the books.”
First Midnight Meat Train, then Pig Blood Blues, Books of Blood and now Dread; could it be we’re actually in the midst of a Clive Barker revolution? Now, if only they could sort things out with that Hellraiser remake…
Be sure to click here to read the entire interview, which covers everything from Abarat to his recent art gallery showings to his overall health, which is thankfully on the upswing. You won’t be sorry!
