A Teenage Hunter Arises in Author Dave Zeltserman's The Boy Who Killed Demons“Have I mentioned before that I hate demons?” asks Henry Dudlow, the unlikely teenage hero of Dave Zeltserman’s The Boy Who Killed Demons. Intrigued? Then read on to learn more about the upcoming novel.

Its release date is October 16th, but first Dave (pictured right) is attending the upcoming New York Comic Con (October 9-12) in The Overlook Press booth. Before he heads to the Big Apple, we’ll be chatting with him about The Boy Who Killed Demons so look for our Q&A soon. In the meantime check out the synopsis and cover art below.

From the Press Release:
Like the fictional heroes who have come before him, Henry Dudlow didn’t ask for the gift (or as he sees it, curse) forced upon him. At age 17, when he should have been reading comic books, goofing off with friends, and thinking about high school, Henry discovered that he sees people differently. Instead of his mild-mannered neighbor looking like an average middle-aged man, Henry saw a disturbing creature, a demon.

Now, at age 15, he has alienated himself from his parents, his grades and social life have suffered, and he has thrown himself into the translation and study of ancient texts on the supernatural—not your average teenager’s extracurricular activity.

The Boy Who Killed Demons is written entirely as Henry’s diary, serving the purpose of recording the truth about demons in case he doesn’t survive, as well as documenting the regular dangers of high school: angry parents, a budding romance, and the school’s resident bully. When children begin disappearing throughout the Boston area, Henry’s unasked for calling challenges him to face what his ability allows only him to do: begin hunting demons. In a race against time, Henry must stop a band of demons from opening the gates to hell, all while keeping his sacred duty a secret from everyone in his life.

Filled with the heroism, teen angst, and humor of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Spider-Man, The Boy Who Killed Demons is the latest entry into the unlikely hero canon. Zeltserman’s third horror novel moves with the same heart-racing pace as his previous thrillers and expands to reach a younger audience through its teenage protagonist. This is a book that will scare teens and adults alike, all while reminding them of the perils of growing up.

Synopsis:
The setting is quiet Newton, Massachussetts, where nothing ever happens. Nothing, that is, until two months after Henry Dudlow’s 17th birthday, when his neighbor, Mr. Hanley, suddenly starts to look… different. While everyone else sees a balding man with a beer belly, Henry suddenly sees a nasty, bilious, rage-filled demon.

Once Henry catches on to the real Mr. Hanley, he starts to see demons all around him, and his boring, adolescent life is transformed. There’s no more time for friends or sports or the lovely Sally Freeman; instead Henry must work his way through ancient texts and hunt down the demons before they steal any more innocent children. And if hunting demons is hard at any age, it’s borderline impossible when your parents are on your case, your grades are getting worse, and you can’t tell anyone about your chosen mission.
