It’s Stephen King’s world, and we’re all just living in it. Seriously, I think that might actually be the case. We’re in some Dark Tower portal where Stephen King’s influence is everywhere. Not that I’m complaining, of course. That’s a pretty good space to be in. This fall, we can expect the It prequel series, Welcome to Derry, and Francis Lawrence’s long-awaited The Long Walk is poised to hit theaters in September. Edgar Wright’s The Running Man will be racing into theaters just two months after that.

Amidst all the King on screens big and small, you’ve likely missed out on MGM+’s (home of From) The Institute. Adapted from Stephen King’s 2019 novel of the same name, The Institute is close to wrapping its first season. The show is only getting better, and the first episodes are available to stream for free now. Do yourself a favor and check into The Institute, a show getting glowing praise from Stephen King himself.

Per MGM+: A group of psychic children unites to take on the shadowy organization that has kidnapped them and claims to be using their power to “save the world.”

The Institute has been a critical success, and it’s already captivating audiences. In a tweet about where the show is heading, Stephen King shared it’s “going to blow you away,” adding that he’s thrilled to see the show is a “bona fide hit.” In our review, we wrote, “The Institute twists into an intriguing examination of regret and shame.” Sounds like a hit to me. Check out King’s tweet in full below:

The Institute is a must-watch for fans of Stephen King. Whether you’re familiar with the source material or not, there’s a lot worth checking out. When we spoke with star Mary Louise Parker, she shared, “It’s a level of human cruelty so debauched it’s kind of unfathomable.” The Institute isn’t an easy watch by any means, though don’t let that discourage you from checking it out. There’s a big, human heart at the center—like the best King stories—and that’s enough to endure some of the more upsetting beats. If you’ve been a fan of some of the more recent King adaptations, this one’s for you.

What do you think? Do you have any plans to check out The Institute? Which other Stephen King adaptation are you most looking forward to this year? Let me know your thoughts over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
