Sandra Bullock Thriller with a Shocking Twist Is Now #1 on the Hulu Streaming Charts

Decades ago, Margaret Anderson (Jane Wyatt) had a premonition of her husband’s death on the seminal family sitcom Father Knows Best. The plotline was unconventional, largely because it not only validated Anderson’s paranoia surrounding the premonition but actually paid it off in the end. Suitably spooked, her husband skips his work trip. That same evening, the road he would have taken was washed away in a flood.

While Father Knows Best is a sitcom, the horror genre has maintained a longstanding fascination with premonitions of impending doom. The Final Destination franchise is built around the conceit, while Asian horror fare like Premonition and The Eye toy with clairvoyance with remarkable ease. Heck, even The Mothman Prophecies ultimately arrives at an augur of disaster our hero must somehow prevent from happening. Premonitions are ripe with possibilities for scares and tension, and one underrated offering starring a future Oscar winner is now topping the Hulu charts. Learn more below:
Per Hulu: A Midwest housewife whose husband dies in a car crash is shocked when he appears alive the next day.
I first saw Premonition years ago. Remember those days in the late aughts? There were all kinds of PG-13 horror movies arriving in theaters week after week. Few were good, though Premonition elevated itself above the pack with a strong central performance from Sandra Bullock and some expectedly eerie presages of disaster yet to come. The non-chronological format is certainly disorienting, and there’s an earnest emotional core in Bullock’s desperate desire to save the man she loves.

While I prefer Tsuruta Norio’s Premonition, a Japanese horror film released three years before, this Premonition ain’t half bad, either. Listen, my mom and I loved it, okay? That’s what really matters. Now that the film is streaming on Hulu, now’s the perfect time to fill in that blind spot and revisit an unfairly maligned little spookshow. After all, $84 million in box office receipts has to mean something, right? Think of it as The Lake House, but horror, and you’ll be in for a treat. Plus, I’m never one to scoff at Sandra Bullock in some genre fare. The Net is a personal favorite of mine for a reason, after all.
