Chris Nash is taking the horror world by storm with his feature film debut In A Violent Nature, his unique and laconically paced slasher that features at least two kills that’ll have your stomach in knots. Audio leaked from a Chicago screening reportedly features the sounds of audience members screaming and even getting sick. Writers have noted how ill parts of the film made them. Now, master of horror Stephen King is weighing in and spoiler alert, he loved everything about it.

In the film:

When a locket is removed from a collapsed fire tower in the woods that entombs the rotting corpse of Johnny, a vengeful spirit spurred on by a horrific 60-year-old crime, his body is resurrected, and he becomes hellbent on retrieving it. The undead golem hones in on the group of vacationing teens responsible for the theft and proceeds to methodically slaughter them one by one in his mission to get it back—along with anyone in his way.

Now, check out Stephen King’s reaction to Nash’s new slasher below:

While rumors of vomiting theatergoers are the oldest trick in the marketing book, there’s no denying the impact In A Violent Nature has had on viewers. And it certainly captured the attention of Stephen King himself. He has such a way with words, especially when it comes to comparing a gnarly slasher villain to cartoon blobs who speak gibberish.

But we’re lucky to even have this film. According to a recent interview with the film’s crew in the Daily Beast, the In A Violent Nature production was borderline cursed. Producer Shannon Hanmer said in the interview, “Every inch of nature tried to kill us.” Everything that could go wrong, went wrong for the team. And yet, in the face of nature’s fury, they persevered and delivered one of the most unique, and gnarly, films of the year.

Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, Cameron Love, Reece Presley, Liam Leone, Charlotte Creaghan, Lea Rose Sebastianis, Sam Roulston, Alexander Oliver, and Lauren Taylor star in the film.

In A Violent Nature is out now in theaters.
