‘Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree’ Gets A Release Date

Today, during the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree announcement trailer, Bandai Namco announced the release date and price of the highly anticipated DLC for Elden Ring. Coming just two years after the release of Elden Ring, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree looks to recreate what The Old Hunters did for Bloodborne. It will add a wealth of new enemies, weapons, and lore to the already fascinating world.

Rumored to have begun as two separate DLCs, Shadow of the Erdtree even included the Colosseum update in its first DLC pack. This was before it was retooled and included in a free update for Elden Ring on December 7th, 2022. After a while, it seemed the two DLCs were merged into what looked like several new areas. This happened to From Software before with Bloodbornes DLC, The Old Hunters.

In the brief glimpse we got in today’s trailer, we got a look at a multitude of new enemy varieties. This includes a giant dog head…thing, as well as something that reminds me of the alien brain bug from Starship Troopers. Again, From Software has managed to hit this line between beauty and horror as they have done so many times before.

Along with enemies, we got a good look at some more evolved martial arts weapons, including a kung fu-style melee-based one and a machine gun-like crossbow. What excited me the most was the look at a few new spells. I have no idea what they do, but spells are always a fun and chaotic time in From Software games.

While little is known story-wise about Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, we won’t have to wait long to dive into it. With a release date of June 21, 2024, and a fancy new collectors edition, I am incredibly excited to jump back into the world of Elden Ring to familiarize myself with its systems and mechanics. When June 21st comes, I want to be ready to lose myself to Elden Ring one more time.
